sanctification, that arcane set of rituals
the process of trusting oneself to a god
steeping in herbs and spring water
as if I were some kind of damn soup

but what is the use of becoming divine
if all gods ever do is sleep?
lithe limbs sprawled over a throne of gold
free from earthly needs of upkeep

an empty girl gets down on her knees and prays
while beneath her, the demons of her youth play
heavenly slumber to earthly drunken lumber
exalted eyes entreated, defiled eyes alive

digging up the earth of my ancestors
and finding the vitality hidden within
a gift to my future self, gifted from days long since gone
a foreseer reaches a midnight hand through the chasms of time
