she was a poem of the highest order
as if a deity had handed her down themselves
but she was surrounded by illiterates

no use judging a book by its cover
if you cant even read the gold lettering on top

she walked through the empty hallways of her home
hammering and sawing reverberating through the walls
messages flew from her fingers to all of her friends
“would you run away with me?”

nobody is serious at seventeen
but she was pretty damn close
with her eyebrows drawn together
and her bottom lip sore from biting

the old shops in her new town creak and groan
“do you feel lonely?
its a great big world out there”
