a heart like a boxer fighting my last round
a smackdown of fear and inhibitions
hallucinating death chimes in my visions
the spontaneity of the situation confusing but also kind of liberating

sprinting down the spiraling hallways
faster than I’ve gone in about two months
a physical knife hidden in my bra
and a physical knife resting next to it as it pokes my heart

I know that this isn’t supposed to be how it goes
there’s supposed to be a gigantic fight scene, some heart-pumping action on the part of the audience, some pithy quotes thrown around
but instead, I just took the knife I had for the food
and ran when nobody was looking

there’s nobody coming after me
maybe it’s better this way rather than how it goes in the movies
for I don’t think I’d survive if the guards realized that they were supposed to actually give a crap about me
and for Emma’s sake, I hope that it stays that way
