you’ll have to open your eyes first
and then maybe stand up and look out at the horizon
that you spent almost a week shaping to your desires

can you pass the milk, please?
they say that food tastes better in the outdoors
and I would like to disagree
because the worry about today’s events quite spoils my cereal

what do you think is going on at home?
are the police searching everywhere for us?
is my mom even worried about where I am
or is she more concerned with the attention she’s getting?

why does the sky have to be blue?
why not gray to reflect a burgeoning city
or green to reflect the mass amount of trees here
because that seems to be one of the only things here
