if tears left scars
everybody’d have a face full of cracks
some people more than others
and maybe those would tell a story
albeit a story without words
for words seem to hurt people the most
far more than swords or daggers or guns
or other lethal weapons

if tears left scars
maybe people would think more before hurting others
because everybody could see the effect
of their scathing words

or maybe people would learn to not let words hurt them so much
or express their empathy or sadness with actions
and help others
so that they don’t feel the same way that they did
