liberi (a memory from a past life)
published: 12-29-2018
the midnight hands caress her face one last time
a faint brush against her lips- a kiss
leaving steps in the snow as I turn, still sublime
and disappear into the fog and mist
she and I meet again at the entrance to the underworld
this time, with her friend of old
energy runs through me- and my wings unfurl
and the world re-remembers the cold
but not to fear, for she brings a fire of her own
and propels her friend to the edge
and with a snick I am human again, alone
with a heart divided by a sharp wedge
instant regret in his eyes
as he picks up his daughter- no, his son
and weeps to the sky
a promise to keep safe, no longer kept
through his hands run red
black and yellow and brown; a life he never knew I led
hanging between the balance of life and death
faintly aware as I'm carried to the back of the caravan
wrapped up in sheets and whatever's left
only father left to see me; ordered not to be touched by any other hand
soul kept in one piece by the Mother's grace
kept asleep, unaware, in limbo until we can reckon face-to-face
we arrive at the Tree
and my limp body is laid on the ground for Her to see
for return to life, father pleads over me
no matter what crimes I may have committed for the enemy
