the little girls plead at my feet
with faces upturned, awaiting a story
worthy of their short attentions

“alright,” I reply, promising a worthy tale.
“there are people who write up storms with nothing than a pen
fancying themselves worthy of multitudes of praise
sculpting giants and kingdoms under their fingers.

once in a lifetime, they find a person
who ignites a blaze underneath them
and they dance around with the flame
flickering into the night

they whirl them into hurricanes and summer showers
in miracles, they bloom to life on the page
outrunning the sun, but in retrospect
they are always still mortals bleeding between the pages.”
