there is less than a calendar month of school left
and I am already feeling the burnout
schoolwork and tests and quizzes pile up on each other
a tsunami of deadlines

where have you gone, dear sun?
I don’t mean your presence in the sky
there is no happiness here within these brick walls
only hasty curses and strife

bring back the hazy days
encased in amber and entrenched in summer
where little girls danced without worries under a sky of forever blue
and went to sleep at night with a blanket of stars

but for every idealized moment of carefree bliss
there is one of worrying and looming failure
