welcome to the edge of the world
where the souls of the dead come to rest
grab a stick and a boat
and wander down the river with us

don’t mind the ghosts in the kitchen
they paid beforehand to stay behind on earth
gold coins laid on top of saggy eyelids
and hands crossed on top of their chest

here, take these bones
I mounted them on the walls years ago
I don’t need them anymore
they serve no purpose without their owner, now long gone

things are getting better, I suppose
