amusing muse

published: 1-12-2019

I once thought I had a muse
her name was Adelaide
and she was always bemused

but lately she just screams in my ear
about useless lore from things I didn't want to hear
shrinking down the times my mind becomes clear
and pushing me towards a life more austere

she and I stand on the shore
as the charred wood from the burnt-down village floats off into the evermore
soggy scraps that can't be put back together again because they're too torn

a scar is stronger than the surrounding tissue
but if the scar's not made of flesh- well, there's an issue
mortal bodies know how to heal themselves without conscious directive
but my mind has troubles following even the simplest objectives

high up above, my muse dances in fire
she does a pretty dance while strumming a lyre

as if she knows the perfect way to taunt me
