title: "machikado mazoku: moe masterpiece"
published: 2019-10-18

it's been too long since i've posted. far too long. so i'm just going to talk
about something i won't have to have as much actual textual content because i
have enough screencaps and pictures by now to get away with it. so apologies if
anyone is reading a text-only version of this. i do really recommend using a
feed reader that will allow you to read the post with the original css i
created for it (which is a living document, really, but i always do my best to
make sure i don't change something in ways that will smeg up older posts) and
images, or viewing it via a web browser (only really tested on firefox on my
machine, and a tiny bit of testing on a few android mobile devices, so your
mileage may vary).

already my intro is just boring and rambling. i must have really been itching
to write something.

![this is actually fun!](/images/this-is-actually-fun.jpg "a screencap from the show i'm talking about today with situationally appropriate subtitles")

oh smeg i lost my train of thought. i am sure i had something to say.

at least i thought i did. have a follow-up, i mean, or at least a good place to start.

![i'm not *that* stupid!](/images/im-not-that-stupid.jpg "or maybe i am")

i've been brooding over what to include in this post so much that my thoughts
and ideas don't have any particular order or topical consistency. so i'm going
to wing it. (like i've done for every other post i've written in this blog of
mine. imagine that.)

## why i think まちカドまぞく (yes that's how they spell it in the anime; see below) is so excellent

![まちカドまぞく](/images/machikado-mazoku.jpg)

first, there's the obvious reason that it's very cute. and everyone knows cute
is the only true justice in the world. secondly, the humour was great (despite
the mediocre subtitles i had to work with). it was fast-paced, quick-witted
humour.

![a nitpicky but easy to show example of mediocre subs: her name is yuuko, not yuko](/images/yuko-yuuko.jpg "the sub quality i watched really was mediocre at best by my standards. this example doesn't illustrate how bad they are at times.")

**this show could have flopped** ***so*** **easily**. but it ***didn't***. i
loved watching it as it came out recently and i enjoy re-watching it as well.
i'm out of stuff to say so i'll end with some more pictures (i fell asleep in
the middle of writing this).

title: "decentralised microblogging: thoughts on fedi"
published: 2019-11-07
---

when talking to people about the fediverse who don't know anything about it,
it's depressing how little there is in terms of introductory articles and
references i can link to so i don't have to stumble through explaining it
myself which doesn't end up explaining much and probably scares people away
more than anything. so this is my attempt at providing some cursory information
about the fediverse is, what it isn't, what misconceptions about it exist, the
problems that exist with it as it currently is, whether you should consider
joining the fediverse (and if so, on which server?), and why despite its
shortcomings it is still better than most social media available (especially
twitter). wow; ok this might end up being a multi-parter. that's a lot to
cover.

<div class="bleft">
## what the fediverse `isn't`
### the fediverse:

- is **not** mastodon
- is **not** a "nazi-free" twitter alternative
- is **not** a moderation-free "free speech" twitter alternative
- is **not** the same on one server as it is on another
- is **not** a privacy-centred twitter alternative
- is **not** finished. it's a living and evolving thing
- is **not** a single piece of software and cannot be judged fairly by looking at one implementation of it

</div>

ok. let me elaborate.

> **why is it the first thing i say is that it isn't mastodon?**

sometimes the easiest way to introduce someone to something is by using videos
from youtube/invideo.us/peertube that spell things out in a simple way and
pretty pictures, animations, and voice-overs. when talking about the fediverse,
there is an overwhelming amount of content regarding one piece of software that
runs on the fediverse called **mastodon** and it's almost always written as if
it **is** the fediverse (or worse, they don't mention the fediverse at all and
call it the **mastodon network**). this is ***bad***. because there is so much
more to the fediverse than just mastodon.

let me make something clear here. i *like* mastodon, overall. i think it's a
good piece of software. my first identity in the fediverse was on a
mastodon-run instance. but the problem with the mastodon hype reminds me of my
introduction to the world of free software and gnu, linux, open source, the
osi, the fsf, and that whole fiasco i had to navigate before i had my initial
opinions changing the more i learned. and i know most people don't dig as deep
as i do into these sorts of things and stick to their initial beliefs,
regardless of how accurate they are. that's the problem. the way this stuff is
presented and the way i found out about it, i used to think open source was the
sensible mindset, that linus torvalds created the whole os, and i had no idea
how far back the history really went. i went from a osi fanboy, to a fsf/gnu
zealot, to where i am now which is my own opinion and still changing as time
goes on (as opinions should). i'm closer to the free software view in their
philosophy but am not in agreement with them in all they have to say and have
done by a long shot. oops; tangent.

> **ok, what's all this about nazis, free speech, moderation, privacy, and what happened to the kiss principles??**

yah i know that's a lot to cover, and i doubt i'll get through it all in this
post. but with something as old as the fediverse, you can't really use design
principles like "`keep it simple, stupid`" (aka `kiss`) when discussing the
state of different protocols over time and software built on top of those
protocols and all the hard to find history involved that led to things being
the way they are. but i'm going to try to avoid the history and politics as
much as i can and just spell it out how it is, in reality, at this moment.
because a lot of people in the fediverse are suffering from the mistake of
thinking the way things were on twitter or tumblr or wherever they came from
apply to the fediverse as well. because they don't. and i don't know close to
everything there is to know in order to give an accurate **state of the
fediverse** address anyway, so i'll try and limit myself to things i am fairly
confident of. i will correct any mistakes i make in any part of this blog post
in a way appropriate to the error made. i want this to remain as relevant as
possible for a long time.

i did not come from twitter. i did not come from tumblr. i don't know much
about those places. i only know when i've tried browsing through things there
or even a couple times starting a twitter account, i couldn't stand it and had
no idea what to do. so most of what i know about these places is hearsay. but
apparently, people often come to fedi looking for something either more
moderated or less moderated, with less nazis or with more free speech. now, all
of these things can be found in different places in the fediverse. but the way
things are handled is more tuned to small, reasonably sized communities and
individuals. the wrong way of implementing a decision based on making an
instance `comfy` and `free of spam`, `unwanted content`, `hellthreads`, and `hatespeech`
is when the instance (a server running software that connects to a protocol like
`activitypub` or `ostatus` and part of the `fediverse`) `blocks` *any and all
interaction with another instance*. there are exceptions, but this is almost
always the case. when choosing an instance (sometimes called a **dimension**, by
a cute few ^^), check to see what instances it blocks and to what extent.

ok i'm getting way ahead of myself here. i'm going to end this post here, try
and organise my thoughts, and hopefully part two will actually get into *the
things one should know*, *the counter-arguments to the ones i give for certain
stances i take* (**because all sides deserve a voice, and my opinions are no less
flawed than anyone else's**), and *hopefully some examples of moeverse dimensions*
(the best parts of the fediverse for comf as well as freedom in the hands of
the user) and *what instances to avoid joining because of overzealous blocking,
or that are fine overall but might not be for you*.

and that's still just the tip of the iceberg here. if you have anything you
want me to include, or corrections, or things i should have mentioned but was
too lazy to find sources for and couldn't remember off the top of my head, or
if you want to tell me how this is coming along so far (pls no bulli), and so
on, i am on the fediverse with the handle
@[murabito@lets.bemoe.online](https://lets.bemoe.online/murabito) or you may
[email](mailto:alt@bemoe.online) me if you wish.

i know this part one is far from being what i imagined going in but in
subsequent posts i hope to get all i have to say down, and when all that's
done, i think i will write a separate introduction to the fediverse that will
not be a blog post but a permanent page on bemoe.online somewhere with all the
fluff removed and references included. `#futuregoals`

until next time, my succulent readers, please:

title: "social media fast: an ironic next post"
published: 2019-11-27
---

## DON'T PANIC

i haven't forgotten my ill-conceived promises regarding follow-up posts to
earlier entries. my next blog posts should include something along the lines of either a **part: next** for
my `about me` series only hopefully more interesting as i continue going
through the list or, more likely, a `better written introduction to the
fediverse` based on the feedback i've received from the beautiful people on fedi
who read it and gave me their thoughts.

## but first, let's talk irony

my last post was all about social media, quite literally. and since then i
decided to take a fast from social media. not a long one, just a short one. i
told very few people about it and the people i did tell got to know by virtue
of them being online at the right time and in the right [xmpp muc](# "multi-user chat in jabber").

> why would a hikineet need a break from social media? not like you've got anything better to do.

*au contraire*, **バカ**, if that's what you were thinking.

![](/images/bullshit.png "let me tell you why that's bullshit")

in fact, the potential
dangers of things like social media (or online games and so on) are, in all
likelihood, greater than for someone who is able to go to work every day and
meet people and have extra moneys for drinks or eating out or going to shops
and buying cool anime decor. it is much easier for someone not usually bound
the time of day in the location one is at to get lost in social media. i live in `murabito dynamic time`, for the record.

the problem is magnified tenfold if it's proprietary social media like
f\*cebook and tw\*tter and inst\*gram etc. which are specifically designed to
be as addictive as possible and use secret algorithms to choose whose posts you
see when and are riddled with ads and contaminated by the evils of systematic
opaque data-mining of personal information for nefarious corporate ends.

the only conditions i set for myself that must be met before i can get back on
social media (in my case essentially the **fediverse** and **jabber**) are **1:
that i am well rested** and **2: i get some things i've meaning to do offline done**
(basically, in one way or another be productive and at some point do some
cleaning). i have yet to find out if these conditions are a good way to get out
of this what i am hoping to but so far they seem to be serving some purpose: i
have slept more, and the second condition has kept me from returning to my
social media prematurely. this is a detox in a way and i still haven't found my
groove yet.

## my real reason for writing this blog post

> other than it is something i wouldn't have found the time for if i was chatting in xmpp or catching up on fedi

i actually made an online purchase. of the
[monogatari series bundle that's on sale right now at humble bundle or wherever](https://www.humblebundle.com/books/monogatari-kodansha-books?hmb_source=navbar&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=tile_index_3 "there's only like 6 days left so if you want it yourself i hope you read this before those days are over"). i wanted all of it so i paid the 20 instead of a
lesser amount. i hadn't a lot of experience reading translated (or untranslated
for that matter) light novels and manga especially recently because i always
worried they'd be too liberal with their translations. i know i am a unique
case, but i ***don't want my japanese shit localised at all***. ***don't change
the smegging name order, don't remove the honourifics, and if something is said
that is a japanese-specific pun or cultural reference give me TL don't change
it***.

> did it deliver? how did it hold up to your creepy weeby standards?

well, i'll tell you. `the name order is changed`. `there are no honourifics
even when there clearly were in the original text`. and really, so far that's
all i can tell you. that and they use the american spellings for everything (i
was expecting this, at least, though). i am trying not to let it bother me, the
localising. it's really, *really* difficult, though.

> but hey, at least it didn't cost much, right?

***wrong***. that is a lot of money for me. i am well below the poverty line
and the poverty line is already really low. and there are a ***lot*** of things
i want to buy. but this was probably my only chance to get so much monogatari
source content at a reasonable price. smegging would rather have physical
copies though, and i am going to be spending less on food (yes, food) so i can
make as if it didn't end up costing me anything. if i spend 20 less on food, i
might be a little hungrier, but i will be happy with my purchase because i
won't have that large number looming over it. i can think of it as costing me
some food rations instead. so it's a trade, not a purchase.

## in conclusion, i guess

i don't regret my purchase but i am not super stoked about it either. it feels
neutral. but that's not bad, and no net loss is a good thing. i do look forward
to reading more than the little i have so far. i will probably do this drunk or
high to avoid the natural cringe of localisation. but i think it will be a good
time.

and with this, palatable reader, i bid you adieu.

title: "i bought a thinkpad"
published: 2019-12-05
---

there are reasons the older thinkpads are so popular among certain
technology-enthusiast subcultures. in case you don't know about this "hype"
(for lack of a better word) or know it exists but don't know the reasons for
wanting one, here's a quick list off the top of my head:

- **durable**
- **cheap** ***if you buy at the right time***
- **modular**
- **easily reparable**
- **easily upgradable**
- **keyboard**
- **trackpoint**
- **decent specs**
- **libreboot/coreboot compatibility**
- **docks** ***(you can even buy a battery it docks into)***

basically, they are laptops that were built to last a very long time and to be
easily reparable and upgradable by the owner. and customisability is a natural
byproduct of that, of course. i've wanted one for a long time but never saw
any of the specific models i wanted at a price even close to what i'd heard other
people had gotten theirs for. `[insert generic filler sentences where the
punchline is the title of the blog post]`

### from the listing:

> **Lenovo ThinkPad X220 12.5” Laptop Core i5-2540M, 8 GB, 120gb SSD, IPS**
> **panel, Dock + Extras. Condition is Used.**
>
> **Comes with**
>
> **Laptop**
>
> **2x 90w Lenovo chargers**
>
> **2x extended Lenovo batteries**
>
> **1x USB 3 card**
>
> **1x Docking station**
>
> **The keyboard is amazing. The ssd card is in the MSATA which means the hard**
> **drive bay is open to add another 2.5 inch hard disk for storage! `[…]`**

there was no `buy it now` option so i had to bid on it. there was a little over
a day before the auction ended when i happened across it.

### so what did it cost you?

that's the question i'd be asking if i were reading this instead of writing it,
because of my limited budget. it ended up costing, in <b style="color: lightblue; background-color: red">u</b><b style="color: red; background-color: white">s</b><b style="color: white; background-color: blue">d</b>, roughly `$130` **+** `$25` *shipping* **=** <mark style="font-weight: bold">~$155</mark> in total.

i will be blogging about my impressions of the actual laptop some time after it
arrives (`eta: 12 december 2019`). i am kind of hoping to actually write *that*
blog post on the thinkpad itself, so it may take some time before i have
everything configured on there. i may even be able to get two blog entries
(excluding this one) out of this. one about the laptop itself, and one about
installing the os and such.

## とにかく

i'm trying to keep these short enough so that you don't get bored. but, i do
have tendencies to ramble quite a bit. having a blog is a way to post my
ramblings on the internet in case anyone finds something in them interesting.
if they are too long they probably aren't formatted well and walls of text
isn't something i think many people find very interesting.

> on that note

i am going to make an optimistic prediction: that **my next post will be
written soon** <mark>※ this is the optimistic part</mark> and **its
topic will be something anime related**. but until then, my nectarous

this is the first time over a month has gone by since submitting
an earlier blog entry. i have written and accumulated several new but very
incomplete posts since the last i submitted. but this all has
nothing to with this mischievously misleadingly titled blog entry i am
writing and you are reading.

## part zero / portable computers

by portable computer i basically am referring to notebook computers,
laptops, netbooks, those kinds of portable computers. not as portable
as other computers like mobile phones, tablets, or the timeless
[tamagotchi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamagotchi "kids' best friend")
of the 1990s, but designed to be used as one would their desktop
computer but on-the-go and without needing to lug around a screen or a
mouse or a keyboard or anything because it's built into the device and
as with a desktop computer, you can plug in external hardware as
needed.

> you could have just said, say, ***laptops*** and there'd have been
> no need to explain anything

shut up, other me. sit in a corner somewhere and drink a beer

> i don't have any beer

so go shopping

> no u

no u

-------

**[omitted]**

-------

sorry about that. the smeghead's an absolute nutter. let's move on.

## part one / parts of speech

### in the beginning~

~i gave this blog entry a title with two main parts. and the second
part of the title was made deliberately ambiguous in a vain attempt to
be intriguing, hopefully make the reader curious.

> hah. you just admitted you were vain

no i didn't. i said i did something that was vain. these two things
do not equate each other. stop being thick.

> stop being so mean so mean to yourself, dude.
> i have feelings, too, you know

[*sigh*] i know. i'm sorry. forgive me?

> [silence]

\*じ~~~~~~~~~~\*

> ok! fine! you are forgiven just stop staring at me like that. it's
> creeping me out.

-------

a subtitle of "screw solutions" can mean several things, and the word
that changes everything is that first one. setting aside
interpretations that don't fit the context here, whether or not
*screw* is being used as a noun or as a common sfw expletive-alternative.

i'm talking about the noun. the tool, as in the bolt or the nail
modified with an inclined plane wrapped helically around
aforementioned tool's axis and with groovy heads (that is to say,
there's generally grooves on the head designed to fit a certain type
of screwdriver).

> **OK YOU KNOW WHAT. I'M STEPPING IN.**

## here comes the kicker

the hard drive was taken out of an old dell laptop whose life was
already over. i actually removed the hard drive before i got `pure
illusion` because i was going hard drive hunting and i was curious how
hard taking apart and putting back together the necessary parts of the
notebook to get to the drive would be. that process took a very, very long time
in comparison, and i never bothered trying to put any of the pieces
back. i think i ended up just removing whatever i parts i could in the
end that seemed like they might be useful at some point in time. i
don't put a lot of trust in my memory though regarding what happened
when because [**spoiler alert**] the majority of what you remember
probably didn't happen the way you remember it happening. eye-witness
testimony is both the number one most relied on type of evidence that
gets convictions in court, and one of the least reliable type of
evidence that can even count as evidence in court.

the laptop i dismembered had a ***lot*** of screws i had to remove.
i cannot recall at which point i could remove the hard drive. but
here's a lovely photograph of the pieces. note the plastic baggie. in
it are at least 30 screws i had to unscrew and there's a couple of
pieces with screws attached to them after unscrewing them from when i
was planning on putting it back together still. and i easily may have
lost several screws while in the process.

![](/images/screwyscrews.jpg "sorry i'm not a photographer but this is my penance for being so late getting a post out there")

do you know how many screws it would take to replace `pure illusion`'s keyboard? two.
i've also replaced a key on the keyboard. on most (especially modern)
laptops this is a daunting task, and in most cases not worth the
effort. on `pure illusion` it was nothing short of simple.

### on blocks, rumours, fallacies, politics, and the importance of being excellent to each other

since i know of no way to see a list of members of my instance other than
the one in adminfe which isn't great if i'm looking for the purpose of finding
the people here ([lbmo](https://lets.bemoe.online lets.bemoe.online)) so i can follow them, i thought i'd put "lets.bemoe.online"
into pleroma's search bar to see if it would show members of it under the
'people' tab (spoiler warning: it does not work this way).

so, i started reading the posts listed under 'statuses' and i feel both
loved/thankful to a lot of wonderful friends of mine and sad about how the
whole *federating* part of the *fediverse* is being slowly undone by admins who
claim to be progressive and forward thinking but are unfortunately just
propagating a culture reminiscent of twitter and friends, unbeknownst to their
users and often even themselves.

i have said this many times, but i am going to say it again: **GUILT BY
ASSOCIATION** is a logical fallacy and is **NOT** something that instance blocks
should be based on. the same is true of **RUMOURS** which don't have any basis in
reality. i have yet to see a reason my instance has been blocked by another
that is actually both valid and based on truth.

it used to make me a little sad or upset when i found out i, personally, had
been blocked by another user. since then i've come to appreciate it. i think
it's a wonderful thing that a user can block another user so they don't have to
deal with them. users blocking instances is 100% ok by me, too, although i'm
just assuming that this is possible because i haven't ever looked for that
setting. (sidenote: if it is *not* possible for a user to block an instance so
they can't see activity from them then the fact an instance *can* and without any
hacks is stupid and backwards.)

when lies such as those surrounding instances like mine, blobcat, fab,
enigmatic observer, and many others are propagated across the fediverse and
admins use those unsubstantiated rumours as a basis for an instance block, it
means that they are cutting all of their users off from being able to interact
with any friends and potential friends those users might have had in blocked
instance. i created `lbmo` in part so i could participate in the fediverse
without having to dealing with the instance blocks that were being unjustly
dished out to fantastic instances like the one i came from before starting my own: fab
([fedi.absturztau.be]() is fab, and the admin, `@absturztaube` is an excellent admin,
a great friend, a kind person, and has been the object of unwarranted attacks
and hate. i owe them a lot).

i didn't make it a personal instance like i was originally going to because in
the end i decided letting other users join sounded more fun to me. for a long
time and while a lot of the blocking was happening (more than i knew about and
likely far more than i know about even still), i was the only truly active
person on this server. i don't like all of the instances i federate with (which
is all of them who have not blocked federation with me; i do not instance block), and i do not agree
with a lot of opinions many of the people in the instances i federate with hold. that doesn't
mean i think the users here or myself would be better off if i cut federation
with them. even some of the instances with a majority of users who have views i
find very off-putting have people in them who are good people and friendly.

many people will sign up to a fedi server not knowing anything about the blocks
that happen and the true stories behind them. when i first joined the fediverse
i had no idea these kinds of blocks existed (instances blocking other
instances). i also know i'm not the only one. i am also sure a lot of people
sign up on instances considered evil and toxic by a lot of the existing fedi
community clueless about the reputation they hold or the views of the majority
of users on the server, let alone how many servers block the one they join.

when you isolate communities like that, those who held moderate opinions on
different issues or had no opinion on them have a strong tendency to end up
extremist themselves. and right now a large part of the fediverse is being
split from another. you can call them the radical right and radical left if you
want a dichotomy in order to better understand. this breeds more radicals on
either side and sows the seeds of discord between people who have opinions
differing from yours. **THIS** is what i find to be extremely toxic.

i have friends and family who disagree strongly with my views, and whose views
i strongly disagree with myself. for example, i am close with people who think
trump is an excellent president who is doing the right things for america. i
don't understand their reasonings. and that's ok. people don't have to agree to
get along. i am an anarchist and a socialist. i think capitalism should be
abolished. i have not been alive during a time when the president of the united
states hasn't been a war criminal. the so-called two party system in america is
comprised of two political parties who have almost identical policies across
the board. even among young people it is not a popular opinion to say that
obama is a war criminal as well as the republican presidents who came before
and after.

it is ok to disagree with people. no-one agrees about every little thing. this is
not a reason people shouldn't get along. if people focused more on those around
them (both virtually like we are doing online right now and in meat space) and
put their energy into trying to get along with people with whom they disagree
politically/religiously/philosophically/etc. there wouldn't be all the
polarisation and prejudices that are rampant and what keeps the oligarchy able
to continue staying in power because discord and unity are mutually exclusive
things.

i will likely be blocked for writing this post. but i hope some people who read
it will take something from it and that it might serve as a reminder to some
that **being excellent to each other is critical for the future**. i can answer
questions and give more information where needed. this is something written
without any kind of outline so i don't doubt some people may be confused by
parts.

`this is the entirety of the post i made on fedi, the only differences being some minor corrections and one or two clarifications for those unfamiliar with the fediverse`

title: "moe anime recommendations"
published: 2020-02-15
---

i haven't posted about anime in a while, and i am too lazy to focus on a single
show so i'm going to instead post about several shows. in particular, this post
will focus on shows that i find to be lovably **moe** because, well, *moe is
smegging awesome*.

> side note: this post will contain a lot of pictures because i'm not writing
> reviews, just listing recommendations, and i couldn't decide on which ones to
> use so i used a lot.

because this post is dedicated to anime that are moe, it's only appropriate to
start with the show which coined the phrase "***moe moe kyun***":

## k-on

![mio - ritsu - mugi - azusa - yui](/images/kon-2.jpg)

a lot has been said about k-on by a lot of people who know more about the anime
industry than i, but i would be remiss if i passed up an opportunity to tell
people how much i love this anime. although if you want to learn more about the
show, i highly recommend looking up some videos about the significance and
impact k-on has made on a privacy-respecting youtube frontend.

> i do *not* recommend doing this via the official youtube site or app,
> however, because of google's unethical collection and usage of user data.
> [invidio.us](https://invidio.us/) is one option for viewing on a browser that
> has an [ethical privacy policy](https://invidio.us/privacy).

![anyway, back to the show](/images/kon-1.jpg)

**k-on** is essentially about `cgdct` (**cute girls doing cute things**). more
specifically, it's the story of a group of girls as they go through high school
who make up the school's light music club and form the band `houkago tea time`
(after-school tea time) aka **HTT**. the songs in the show are amazing as well.
including the openings and endings (i have a soft spot for the season one ed,
personally), but also the songs they play throughout the series and film.

![](/images/houkago-tea-time.jpg)

coming up with a list of favourite anime is a hard thing to do. it's impossible
to rank some things properly, if you know what i mean. but i have over the
years come up with at least a top 3 i can use when people ask me what my
favourite anime is, and **k-on** is one of them.

![](/images/kon-3.jpg)

if you have visited my fediverse instance at
[lets.bemoe.online](https://lets.bemoe.online/) (or `lbmo` for **l**et's **b**e
**m**oe **o**nline), you'll see the background i use on it currently is yui
from k-on, as is my current profile picture:

![](/images/k-on_yui_avatar.gif)

i know i have said very little about the show itself in favour of posting pictures but i did warn you at the beginning.

> i'm going to do a brief recap of what i've said in earlier posts about moe anime before getting back to ones i haven't talked about yet

## machikado mazoku

the show i most recently [wrote about](/posts/2019-10-18-moe-masterpiece-machikado-mazoku.html) if my memory serves me correctly, and it was also mostly a picture post.

![shamiko calling out movie logic](/images/shamiko-calling-out-movie-logic.jpg)

so just posting a couple of the pictures here is a fine enough recap (\^.\^)

![empathy of a demon girl](/images/shamiko-empathy.jpg)

also the ending was pretty unexpected so look forward to that.

## sora no method

![noel is so cute!](/images/soranomethod-noel-umbrella-nonoka.gif "noel and nonoka from sora no method")

this is a show i have talked about in my [part 1](/posts/2019-07-15-sora-no-method_eva-and-the-ultimate-question_part-i.html) and [part 2](/posts/2019-07-26-sora-no-method_eva-and-the-ultimate-question_part-ii.html) posts where i talk about **sora no method** as well as **evangelion**.

![noel being noel](/images/soranomethod-noel-being-noel.gif)

it's super cute and has an unexpected yet satisfying ending. one of the avatars i use on fedi is from this show:

![](/images/soranomethod-noel-BOO.gif)

there are a few funny similarities between this show and the following show, the most obvious being the name being similar.

## sora no woto

`そら` can be translated as 'sky' or 'heavens', `の` is used to show
possession, and `をと` can be translated as 'sound'. so **ソ・ラ・ノ・ヲ・ト**
can be translated as 'sound of the sky'. both sora no woto and sora no method
have adorable characters with the name 'noel' (although to be fair, in sora no
woto it's spelled '*noël*') and are both shows i would classify as `moe`.
all in all though, sora no woto and sora no method are *very* different shows.

![](/images/soranowoto.png)

i am quickly running out of steam and all my own (and preferred) screencaps of
this show are on my other computer, so i'm going to have to make do with some i
found online. i may edit this in the future to have my own screencaps in it.
for now, you'll get a few pictures and a few words. and the last show i was
going to do tonight will have to wait until next time. ごめん。

![you should have this attitude before watching this](/images/im-ready-for-anything.jpg)

make sure you watch the whole thing including episode 7.5 they couldn't air on
japanese television because of underage drinking. this show deserves to be seen
in full.

![](/images/dolphins-are-very-scary.jpg)

the beginning of the show is happy and fun, but as it gets further in there'll
be darker elements and emotional scenes. this isn't a bad thing.

![](/images/sora-no-woto.jpg)

this anime is surprisingly deep especially when comparing it to some other
shows on this tiny list. there is a lot people can learn from this anime.

![](/images/sonoto.jpg)

one of the ultimate selling points for this anime is its absolutely incredible
ost. i have the soundtrack and listen to it often.

## gj-bu

sorry; i'm done for now. this one will have to be on my next list.
